STILL IN CHULA VISTA???

Wednesday morning came and went and we were still trying to stow everything, in fact Arlene was still buying "last minute" supplies at noon on Wednesday. Now we have too much stuff to get it all stowed safetly so we'll have to spend Thursday trying to accomplish that magic.

I gave our rental car back to Avis this afternoon so we can't buy any more stuff and I really hope that Arlene finds a way to put what we've got away. Here is a partial list of some of the stuff:

8 four packs of toilet paper
8 four packs of paper towels
6 six ounce bottles of sesame oil
6 cases of diet soda
2 cases of beer
11 one pound bags of whole bean Starbucks coffee

and so it goes - Way Too Much!

It is possibly four weeks until we see a major store but, I think we will survive.

One of the important things I accomplished a couple of weeks ago with the help of my brother Jim was a complete inspection of the mast and all standing rigging. Here is a picture of me inspecting the spreaders and stuff on the spreader. Jim is kneeling on the bow where he controls the windlass which hauls me up the mast using the spinnaker halyard and two blocks attached to the port toe rail. My climbing harness is also attached to the spare main halyard via a Petzel ascender. The Petzel is a rock climbing device that will slide upward but will not slide downward unless I keep my thumb pressed in on a lever.

If the spinnaker halyard were to break or the bosun chair were to fail or it tipped me out, I would fall about two feet until the line attached to my climbing harness and the petzel took up my weight. I test the Petzel each time I go up by climbing up three steps (about 6') and then jumping off without the spinnaker halyard being tensioned. The Petzel always catches me.

The picture was taken my my brother John who flew out from Laurel, Maryland to visit for a few days.

Tomorrow I will fill the propane tanks and wash the boat. Arlene will finish stowing stuff and then we'll rest!

Friday AM is now D-Day.

More Later.
