EVARISTO PICTURES

We stayed in Entrance Cove at San Evaristo for the last two weeks of May 2002. Here are some pictures of the area:

This is looking south from the hill above Mirador. The water in the cove really was that green. It was hard to dive because the visibility was limited to about 10 feet by the green "stuff" in the water.

The cove was 20' deep just a couple of feet from shore and was 35' deep just forward of where Mirador is anchored.

The image to the right is from a little higher up the hill above Mirador and is looking NorthEast across the San Jose Channel

That is Isla San Jose, about six miles across the channel.

The cactus is a Sour Pitaya and the flower that is leaning over is the remains of a Yucca plant.

This is looking SW toward the village of Evaristo and the inner harbor. Mirador is anchored in the cove to the left of the picture.

There are about five permanent homes, a small store, a small school and church, and a reverse osmosis de-salination plant along the beach in the cove.

Just north, across a small ridge, from Evaristo is a series of salt pans where sea water is evaporated to extract the salt. Twenty miles of dirt road connects this operation to the paved highway.

This picture was taken from the same spot as the one above but is looking NNW rather than South. Those are the Sierra Giganta in the distance.

Here is another shot of the hill that rises directly from the anchorage. The 4000' Sierra Giganta mountains go almost straight up from the western part of San Evaristo.
