Zihua Sail Fest - 2003
6:00 PM - A “no host” kick-off party at Rick’s Bar. At this time we will distribute event t-shirts and event burgees, accept last minute registrations, provide complete event agendas, answer questions and generally have a good time meeting and getting to know a lot of great new people.
Thursday, January 30
10:00 AM - Wireless E-Mail Seminar. We have Jim Corenman, the author of AirMail, coming down for this event and we will offer the latest updates for Airmail/Sailmail, details on installation and use of new features and facilities in this technology as well as information on Pactor III upgrades.
1:00 PM - Gala beach party with games, games, games. Beach volleyball, blindfolded dingy races, cop a feel (you figure it out) and many others.
Friday, January 31
12:00 Noon - Pursuit Race. An absolutely “NO STRESS” fun event which features a staggered start based on PHRF handicap that is designed to get everyone to finish about the same time. Complicated by an “either way around” course and with prizes awarded for the first three AND last three finishers, this is going to be a lot of fun.
4:00 PM - Afternoon and evening will be devoted to a dingy raft-up and pot-luck appetizer party around and aboard Profligate, Latitude 38’s Surfin’ 63 catamaran, generously provided by Richard Spindler, publisher of Latitude 38.
11:00 AM - A charity sail aboard Profligate (and some other large boats, depending on demand) for those fun loving folks willing to cough up a few extra pesos to directly benefit the Indian School. (Note, this event subject to schedule changes dependent upon participation.)
11:00 AM - A sail parade, where we cajole everyone in the fleet to “dress ship,” get that anchor off the bottom and join in a possession around the Bay, up to Ixtapa to impress the tourists and return to Zihua. Last year we had nearly the entire fleet out for this parade and we expect to see an even better turn out this year.
4:00 PM - Wrap up barbeque, beach party and awards ceremony. This year the dinner is to be held at the Las Gatas Beach Club with a selection of food provided by a variety of local restaurants offering house specialties. There will be plenty of room for as many happy people as have the good sense to be here in the most beautiful bay on the Mexican mainland.
Monday, February 3
10:00 AM - HAM test for all classes of HAM radio license. Here is your chance to get legal. Remember, if you are only a tech and have been taking advantage of the Mexican Provisional License to gain access to the world-wide bands, this will end when you leave Mexican waters! No time like the present to upgrade.
Throughout this entire event we will be selling raffle tickets for a huge list of great prices, all generously provided by local merchants. Last year we had everything from Spa treatments to parasail rides. This year’s list will be even greater. Here is your chance to win the big one and do a lot of good for a great charity in the process.
