PHOTOS OF ESPIRITU SANTO ROCK FORMATIONS

These pictures were all on the SW side of Isla Espiritu Santo, about 15 nautical miles NE of La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico.

This is looking east from the Sea of Cortez on the west side of the island

Sunset, Yes - it really is this red!

The Sea was very calm this afternoon.

The multiple layers of different rock fascinated us. You can really see how the different strata were laid down over the years. Mirador is just over the rock cliff on the right side of the photo.

Notice how the sandstone has been laid down on top of the black conglomerate. Now I wish I had studied more geology.

I'd like to be here when one of those big slabs slid off the wall above, I bet there would be a splash or two.

We did a lot of fishing but no catching off these cliffs. We eventually moved Mirador north to Caleta de la Isla which is just to the east of Isla Ballena which you can see on the far left of the picture about 1/2 of the way down from the top.
