This is the original (2000 -
2016) website for Jerry and Arlene's Adventures on Mirador. Our new website is
at Mirador's NEW Website where you
can see pictures and read stories about Mirador in Florida.
Jerry King and Arlene Nicholson
maintain this site so their families, friends, and anyone else can keep up
with their adventures on Mirador, a 1995 Caliber 40 Sailboat. They sailed
from Tacoma Washington to San Diego in the autumn of 2000. In the spring of 2001 they sold their Puget Sound home to cruise
full time on Mirador in Western Mexico. They returned to Puget
Sound in late 2004 and kept Mirador at a dock on
the Thea Foss waterway in downtown Tacoma.
While sailing in Puget Sound on a rainy winter day in in early August 2010 Jerry decided it was time to take Mirador back to a sunny warm climate. Jerry and his two brothers, Jim and John, left Puget Sound on September 1 and arrived at Oceanside in Southern California on September 15. Mirador then reached her new semi-permanent home in San Diego Bay on September 18, 2010. You can read all about the trip and see lot's of video and still photos at #Tacoma San Diego 2010 or just scroll down the page.
Mirador was at D dock in Sunroad Marina (Sunroad
Marina Homepage) on Harbor Island East, San Diego October 2010 thru February
2016 when we moved her to Charlotte Harbor, Florida. Click on the thumbnails of
Mirador's new home to see full size pictures taken from the ramp leading to Mirador's
dock and from the parking lot looking toward San Diego.

SHORT TERM PLANS
Arlene is still trying to
decide about when to retire. Her employer just announced an attractive
incentive for retirement by the end of 2012 and she will probably accept that
offer. We are still trying to decide if we want to leave Mirador in San
Diego until the Fall 2013 Mexican cruising season or maybe take her to La Paz
and the Sea of Cortez for the winter of 2012 OR - Jerry and Arlene may keep
their San Diego slip and cruise around the Channel Islands and up to Santa
Barbara and Monterrey until the fall of 2013. That is what is wonderful
about cruising - no plans are necessary! .
Until Arlene retires Jerry will spend about half his time on Mirador in San Diego. He works on the boat a little bit and does a lot of bicycle riding. Check the FLICKR site for lot's of bicycle pictures.
The picture below is Mirador in Echo Bay on Succia Island in the north part of the San Juan Islands - about 85 miles NW of Seattle and just south of the Canadian border . Jerry's brother Jim is standing on the bow. Jim will be helping Jerry sail to San Diego.

The following e-mail addresses should have an ampersand (@) in them where we have written (at sign) There is NO SPACE either before or after the @. We have been getting a lot of junk mail generated by programs that scan WEB sites looking for @ symbols in the middle of addresses. We hope that our using the (at sign) convention will stop this problem.

simple.
